SEO on youtube: three quick-wins to implement easily to optimize the SEO of your video content on Youtube.
Let's start this article with some figures. So that you understand the stakes of visibility that Youtube represents for your business.
Youtube, in 2022 is :
- 2.2 billion users worldwide
- 890 million visits per month and 63.9 million unique users in France
- An audience mainly represented by 25-35 year olds, both men and women, like all search engines,
Youtube is a search engine. The second search engine in volume behind Google. (Tiktok soon in the race? That's another subject hehe). Like any search engine, Youtube has its own algorithm of referencing.
So there is a list of good practices to follow to perform well on Youtube. The objective of this introductory article on Youtube x SEO is to give you some quick actions to implement , impactful, and free to optimize the content of your channel.
The 3 (SEO) tips to optimize your video
1 - Optimize the title and description tag of your video
Like the Title and Meta Tag of a website, the Title and Description fields are very important on Youtube. To have a well referenced video you need to :
- A title that is neither too short nor too long (about 60 characters)
- Add your most important keywords in the title!
- A keyword-rich description.
👉 Take care of the title of the video and the description of the video
2 - Add tags
Add tags to your videos! Tags greatly improve the chances of your video being ranked higher on the Youtube search engine.
Youtube allows you to use up to 500 characters in a tag, don't cut corners, use as many as you can!
👉 Create up to 500 characters of tags
(The tags are a bit hidden, click on more in the options to unblock them)
3 - Manually add subtitles to your videos!
I couldn't find the statistic, but I remember it was huge. Many of the platform's users watch videos without sound. It is therefore advisable (if not essential) to add subtitles to your videos.
Youtube automatically generates subtitles to your video, but depending on your elocution and the jargon of the words used, sometimes the translations are wrong.
👉 Add subtitles manually to optimize the quality of the subtitles in your videos
Bonus : Download the Chrome VidIQ extension
The extension (with the free version) allows you to :
- Make an audit of your videos (with a scoring system out of 100)
- Propose keyword semantics
- Analyze metrics like "views per hour
And many other features to discover!
