June 2022 was marked by many new features for Figma. In this article, we review the main changes of the tool: widget integration, new API doc, partnership with Google, new plugins.

Key points to remember

Figma is constantly accelerating the release of new features, updates of existing modules, development of partnerships.

Let's take a look at the Figma news for June 2022.

3 Figma plugins to test at the end of the article!

Widget integration in Figma!

several figma widgets placed on the canva

Already present on FigJam since the new Config 2022, it is now the Figma files that can host widgets! The integration of widgets in Figma translates into dozens of additional features that will allow you to better collaborate, work in staggered time, connect your tools and integrate workflows from your designs.

Widgets are interactive tools that can be easily dragged and dropped onto the Figma canvas. Unlike plugins that can be used alone for a specific need, widgets have the advantage of being collaborative. You, your team, and all the people present on the file can use them to make the model evolve live.

Some cool widgets that we tested and that you might find useful!

Figma Widget: Voice Memo

Leave voice messages directly on the canvas. Great for feedback and working off-line!

Figma Widget: Approve

No more green, red or orange dots on the models! Approve is a simple button with two statuses "Revision" and "Approved". Place this button near a section or a model to have it approved by your team or client. A simple click on the button allows you to switch from one status to the other. Other widgets also offer this functionality like RAG Status, Checkbox, Status.

Figma widget: Ticket concept

Connect Notion to Figma with the Notion ticket plugin! You will be able to easily add new Notion cards to your layout, integrate a description, attach a person and indicate the status. A widget that will make life easier for a lot of Notion users!

Figma widget: Simple vote

Complicated to agree or to gather all the feedbacks at the same time? Just let your team vote to decide. The Simple vote plugin is a button that you can place next to several different designs. Simply click on it to vote.

Figma Widget: Asana

Based on the same principle as Notion ticket, the Asana plugin allows you to directly connect the tool to your Figma files. Simplified functionalities will allow you to make your Asana projects evolve live from your templates: create a new task, set a deadline, tag people, manage projects, etc.

Integration of components, widgets and plugins in the toolbar

Finally no more need to go and find your plugins by right-clicking or to go to all the plugins to install new ones! Figma has almost solved an accessibility issue with this new feature. You can now find all your plugins, widgets and components from the toolbar. A new button has been added to simplify access to these features.

  • Plugins side: install and launch plugins in two clicks
  • Widgets side: integrate any widget by simple drag and drop
  • Components side: drag and drop any component from your files

New API documentation
