Is no-code a threat or an opportunity for developers? Let's open the debate with our opinion on the future of the developer profession in companies.
The debates can be heated: code vs. no-code. But is there really a debate? No-code does not replace code. Why not? Because you need code to develop a no-code solution. So I don't see how developers can disappear. However, I think that their job will change a lot.
My hypothesis is that, in the near future, the best developers will create no-code tools. These tools will be flexible, accessible and suitable for the needs of the majority of the world's businesses.
One example is Microsoft. Microsoft was (still is?) for many years in the majority of companies. And when you opened your PowerPoint or Excel, you didn't wonder if you needed a developer, code, or even low code implementation.
Developers will not disappear
Don't worry... it's obvious that we will always need code and therefore developers. On the other hand, not all companies need in-house developers...
The code behind the no-code
And yes, it is a fact. Behind every "no-code" or "no-coding" application or software there is : CODE!
With the advent of digital technology, there is and will always be a need for almost unlimited amounts of software programming. However, companies that develop their own business solutions are extremely dependent on their developers.
This creates silos and prevents these same companies from making the most of the human resources they have.
Development of new tools
The competition between no-code tools is tough.
The needs of companies and the users of their tools are changing fast! For developers of SaaS tools, it is therefore necessary to constantly improve the interface of their platform or tool in order to be better than the others and not to lose their users.
Advantages of no-code for a company
The real advantage for a company to build its digital strategy on the basis of no-code tools is to allow all its human resources to use the solutions. Yes, all of them, without having to ask for help from the company's "technical department", which is on break, on holiday or already too busy. In short, things move faster.
No-code is the future of developers
Why is no-code the future?
The developers who manage to create a complete and accessible solution will see their solution become the tool that replaces the former developer of that company.
How will no-code revolutionize the world?
If I had the answer.... I would be setting it up 😅
Conclusion
No-code will not replace developers, as developers are needed to develop no-code tools. However, no-code can (will?) replace in-house developers to speed up the project management of in-house teams.
An example? A marketing team administers its web site autonomously, without recourse to the company's "devs".
