The Client-First by Finsweet Webflow development framework announces a major update (New CSS methods and classes, new branding and new site).
Last night, the Finsweet teams announced the release of a new version of the Webflow Client-First development framework: version 2.1.
As a long-standing ambassador of this development methodology, in this article we share with you what 's new, what we think and what we think will happen next with Client-First.
1. New guidelines & resources
To begin with, at first glance, we're enthusiastic about the news announced: the system does indeed integrate the latest Webflow features, to minimize the use of combo classes and custom CSS. And new guidelines aim to reduce the (over)use of divs in the Navigator, a subject sometimes criticized on the system.
1.1 Variable integration
Variables are at the heart of the new Client-First version. They complement numerous CSS classes such as .text-color and .background-color.
1.2 Reducing the use of Divs and CSS class mappings
- Add padding-section directly to global padding class combo
- Recommended use of Grid and Flex Size to create gaps (vs. Spacer)
- Pointer-Event custom code removed (replaced by Webflow CSS)
- Adding Aspect Ratio classes
1.3 New Cloneable on Made in Webflow
All these new features have been integrated into the Client-First cloneable, available free of charge from the Made in Webflow page.
1.4 Visual updates with the new Webflow interface
Remarkably, the Finsweet teams have updated all their content visuals with the new Webflow UI.
But that's not all... because the Finsweet teams have taken the opportunity to give Client-First a makeover with a new branding and logo!
2. Customer-first rebranding!
Certainly in line with Webflow's October 5, 2023 repositioning, Client-First is getting a facelift!
- New website
- New DA
- New logo!
And not forgetting to update all their visuals in the process. Well done!
(It's up to us to do as well with the update of a few resources... 😅)
Our review of Client-First 2.1
We're delighted to see the framework quickly adapting to Webflow's evolutions. Both from a UI point of view - by updating its universe after Webflow's rebranding - and from a technical point of view - by taking advantage of the tool's new features to evolve its system.
This new version underlines the efforts of the Finsweet teams to continually improve Client-First, for an ever cleaner and more maintainable development approach. But, perhaps, increasingly techy? Not least with the new need to explain to customers how variables work.
And... What's next Client-First V3?
2.1 ? Is that all? According to Sergey's latest tweet, this update is just a tiny part of the new features expected for Client-First in the near future. The whole system should evolve further, once the various breakpoints on Webflow variables have been implemented.
Then, once the "responsive variables" have been released, I think we can already expect an overhaul of the spacing systems? 😉 Follow all Client-First updates directly from the Client-First Changelog.
