Figma is by far the best tool in terms of interface design. It is the ultimate software. First of all, it is good to specify that Figma is free. The paid plan adds some non-essential features and allows to collaborate on more than 3 projects. But for learning or personal use, the free version is more than enough. (I have been working daily on Figma for a year in the free version).
5 reasons why Figma is numero uno:
1. The platform made for all.
Accessible from a browser, all you need is an internet connection and a computer that can handle it (the minimum of recent computers will do). Whether you are on a Linux, a Mac, or a PC, whether you use Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Ecosia, it doesn't really matter. Figma is compatible everywhere and for everyone. No need to download any software, just go to Figma, create a free account, and voilà.
2. Design, even offline.
With the Figma desktop application, it is possible to design offline. A simple connection to the internet will synchronize all files in the cloud.
3. Figma is used by the most reputable companies.
Airbnb, Uber, Microsoft, Notion, Zoom, Dribbble and many others. So what? Well, if companies use it and recommend it, it means they are satisfied. The mastery of Figma is becoming a real skill sought after by companies.
4. Collaboration is simple and smooth.
Anyone can leave a comment or contribute a viewpoint directly on a model. Simply, from a link, everyone can contribute, this feature was revolutionary at the time of containment. Figjam, Miro's competitor, is a whiteboard tool, perfect for iterating, brainstorming and facilitating any kind of meeting in video.
For prototyping, the features integrated in Figma are powerful and well done (smart animate). The Figma UI is well thought out and makes it easy to use the features. The latest (at the time of writing) is the support of videos.
Figma is accessible. Anywhere.
5. A powerful community.
It is possible to access a space dedicated to the community directly on Figma. This space is full of resources, designs, plugins created by Figma and by designers of all kinds. It's a real goldmine to find inspiration.
Plugins make the Figma experience even more complete. Adding an image with Unsplash, an icon with Iconify, fake text with Content Reel or hijacking an image with Remove BG are just a few examples of features made possible by plugins.
So, convinced by Figma?
The recent acquisition of Figma by Adobe, proves the success of this tool, which is still young, but is growing impressively, especially since Covid.
Figma has all the cards to swallow up all its competitors. The real question is this: Does Figma have any competitors?
For the moment no. But tomorrow who knows? (cc Framer 🤫)
